History

Sarasota is a city with a unique history. This beautiful city originally started off with American Indians who were drawn to the Sarasota Bay which is sheltered from the Gulf of Mexico by its barrier islands, this results in Sarasota being protected from hurricanes and becoming a safe place, which is why they decided to live here. 

 

John Ringling was Sarasota's first and earliest investors. John and his wife bought various properties and spent their winters in Sarasota. Soon their grounds and mansions became a tourist attraction for those in Sarasota to visit. 

 

There are many different historic museums you can visit around Sarasota to learn more about its unique history.

The area is known for its beautiful beaches and warm weather, with an average temperature of 72 degrees. With numerous different beaches across the coast, each with qualities that make them unique to themselves. Sarasota is also home to the number one beach in the U.S. Siesta Key- home to powder white sand unique to any other beaches.

 

You can also explore the shops and dining of UTC. This distinct destination has over 200 locally owned shops and boutiques, and is close by to many popular attractions like Nathan Benderson Park, Tiger Wood's Popstroke golf, and soon, Mote Science Education Aquarium. There's something fun to do for everyone in the family.
